This is it people. Thanksgiving is next week and it’s time to get everything you need to create an amazing feast for your M&D Logo - just platefamily. I know that the holidays can be a stressful time so I thought I’d spend a little time today to bring some humor into the planning process. Below, are 50 thoughts every person has while grocery shopping for Thanksgiving.

  1. Okay, here I go. Gotta get my Turkey Day stuff
  2. This is going to be quick. In and out. I’ve got my list.
  3. Ugh I forgot my reusable bags at home. Now I’ll end up with 45 plastic bags I don’t need.
  4. Oh my God, it’s SO crowded! We still have a week people!!
  5. Do I HAVE to make the stuffing from scratch? Will anybody even notice?
  6. How are there no plastic bags left in produce? WHERE DO I PUT THE GREEN BEANS?!
  7. Oh, yams! Did I see a coupon for those?
  8. Does (enter child’s name here) like chestnuts in the stuffing or not? I always forget.
  9. If I make a salad, will anybody even eat it? Thanksgiving is for carbs.
  10. Did that woman REALLY just take the last 20lb turkey? I’ll fight her for it.
  11. Seriously, somebody get me a turkey.
  12. My cart seems so full already. How much is this going to cost me?
  13. Should I get baggies and Tupperware to send people home with leftovers?
  14. I don’t want them to take MY Tupperware.
  15. Maybe I should tell everybody to bring some. Is that tacky?
  16. Doing it.
  17. Oh wow, wine samples?!
  18. Is it socially acceptable to try all five samples knowing full well I’m not going to buy a bottle?
  19. Doing it.
  20. Am I out of eggs?
  21. Picture the fridge … are there eggs?
  22. I should have made a non-Thanksgiving list too. It’s not like we aren’t going to eat before next week.
  23. Cereal is on sale. I should grab a bunch.
  24. Do I really need four types?
  25. No. You’re just hungry. Don’t go crazy here. Stick to the list.
  26. Oh crap, I forgot (insert name here) is a vegetarian now. Do I have to make two types of stuffing??
  27. Ugh one of them is definitely coming from a box.
  28. Oh man, that baby will not stop crying.
  29. I can’t blame him, it’s friggin freezing in here!
  30. UGH, this cart is so squeaky! I feel like everybody is looking at me.
  31. That guys is restocking the turkey!! Thank GOD!
  32. I better hustle over there.
  33. Crying baby mama best not take my bird.
  34. Okay, got the turkey. Thanksgiving is saved! What’s next?
  35. Hmm, how many potatoes do I need to ensure I get enough mashed for everybody?
  36. My husband better help me unload all these groceries.
  37. These pies don’t look very good. But I also don’t want to make pie from scratch.
  38. Who am I? Better Crocker? I don’t have time for pies.
  39. I wonder if they’ll give me more wine samples.
  40. Better not.
  41. Okay vegetables. Carrots, Brussels, broccoli, and green beans. That should do it.
  42. Remember when Brussels sprouts were the worst? They’re so trendy now.
  43. I think I saw a recipe that roasted them with apples. I’ll grab a few apples too. I’m trendy.
  44. THIS CART!! SHHHH!
  45. Okay what’s left on the list?
  46. Brie for baked brie.
  47. What a pain in the a**.
  48. I just need to accept the fact that I’ll be living in the kitchen for a million hours next week.
  49. Why did I offer to cook for all these people?
  50. What am I thinking? I should have just placed a holiday order at McKinney and Doyle.

Rebecca McKinney

I was born a foodie. My dad is a chef, baker, and restaurant owner and my mom might as well be because she owns whatever kitchen she walks into. I grew up working in my family’s restaurant and bakery in Pawling, New York – McKinney and Doyle. I started behind the bakery counter at 12 years old after begging my parents to let me start working. At 16 I worked as a hostess. By 18 I was serving tables and training behind the bar where I then worked every other weekend throughout my college career. Even now, when I am visiting my family in New York, I help out where I’m needed. To make a long story short, the food and restaurant industry has been my life for as long as I can remember.

I wanted to create this blog for a few reasons. First and foremost, to share tips, tricks, and knowledge about the food and beverage industry in general but also to help people see a different side of the restaurant world. Every restaurant has a totally unique culture and world within it. I want to help open people’s eyes to more than how fast the service is or how easy or hard it is to secure a reservation.

So, thanks for stopping by! I welcome your ideas, input, and feedback and hope you enjoy!

Eat well & travel often,

Becky McKinney
