10 Reasons to Dine Out on Valentine’s Day

Some of you may think that this post is silly because some of you may think that dining out on Valentine’s Day is kind of a given. But, I’ve actually always preferred to stay in and cook a nice meal at home with my love. That being said, this year … I’ve changed my tune.

Before we had kids (we have an almost 3 year old and I am pregnant with baby number 2 right now), I was all about that homebody life. My husband and I would search for a fun new recipe to try and splurge on ingredients we normally wouldn’t spend on. We’d put on some music and cook a multi course dinner together that we’d later enjoy with a nice bottle of wine or, if we were feeling really creative, some fancy cocktails.

Don’t get me wrong, this still sounds like a perfect evening to me. BUT … with a crazy toddler running our household and the third trimester of my pregnancy sucking every ounce of energy from my soul … I truly see more of the appeal of going out for this holiday.

No cooking? No cleaning? No stepping on misplaced legos or finding old Cheerios between the couch cushions? Sign me up, okay?

SO, I’ve compiled a list of 10 good reasons to dine out on Valentine’s Day specifically for those of you who, like me, have historically preferred to stay in.

  1. Enjoy a romantic atmosphere with special decorations and music.
  2. Try something new with a special Valentine’s Day menu.
  3. Spend quality time in conversation, rather than cooking and cleaning.
  4. Have a stress-free evening without worrying about the preparation of the meal.
  5. Spend time with your loved one without distractions or interruptions.
  6. Impress your date with a restaurant’s professional setting and service.
  7. Enjoy a delicious meal with the perfect balance of flavors.
  8. Support local businesses and add to the local economy.
  9. Enjoy a night out with friends or family.
  10. Take a break from the kitchen and indulge in a decadent meal.

Thoughts? Additions? Do you like to dine out on Valentine’s Day or do you like to stay in?

Rebecca McKinney

I was born a foodie. My dad is a chef, baker, and restaurant owner and my mom might as well be because she owns whatever kitchen she walks into. I grew up working in my family’s restaurant and bakery in Pawling, New York – McKinney and Doyle. I started behind the bakery counter at 12 years old after begging my parents to let me start working. At 16 I worked as a hostess. By 18 I was serving tables and training behind the bar where I then worked every other weekend throughout my college career. Even now, when I am visiting my family in New York, I help out where I’m needed. To make a long story short, the food and restaurant industry has been my life for as long as I can remember.

I wanted to create this blog for a few reasons. First and foremost, to share tips, tricks, and knowledge about the food and beverage industry in general but also to help people see a different side of the restaurant world. Every restaurant has a totally unique culture and world within it. I want to help open people’s eyes to more than how fast the service is or how easy or hard it is to secure a reservation.

So, thanks for stopping by! I welcome your ideas, input, and feedback and hope you enjoy!

Eat well & travel often,

Becky McKinney
