Three Reasons to Eat Out This Week

Is it just me, or is anybody else feeling pandemic fatigue? Just kidding, I know it’s not just me. As someone who has been ultra careful during the last year (new mom over here so we are taking allllll the precautions), I want to share why I am actually quite comfortable with the idea of going out to eat. Here are three reasons why:

I’m not going to pretend that we’ve dined out a ton over the last year because we haven’t. But the main reason why we’ve avoided restaurants has more to do with a maniac toddler than anything else. When we are able to get a sitter, my husband and I are overjoyed to support the local restaurants around us while simultaneously getting a break from cooking and washing dishes – something I am learning is a never ending task once a baby enters the house. Here are three reasons to give yourself a well deserved break and dine out this week.

  1. Restaurants – most of them anyway, and definitely M&D – are following all of the guidelines to keep you safe. Sanitation and cleanliness is always a priority for a good restaurant. Always. It’s not some new focus this last year. The fact that restaurants are upping their already intense cleansing game is pretty amazing. Tables are spaced apart and guests are seated strategically to keep everybody at LEAST 6 feet apart. But it’s usually more. You’ll have more space eating in a restaurant than you do when you’re grocery shopping!
  2. You deserve the break. Guys, the last year has been HARD. The lack of socialization (primarily from the inability to dine out) has major impacts on our mental state. You’re now working, teaching, cooking, cleaning, sweating, and doing everything else from home. Take it from someone who was finally able to go out to dinner last weekend for the first time in a long time … it. helps. It will feel SO good to have some taste of normalcy in your life. And remember what I said in point one above?
  3. Your community needs you. Restaurants are pillars in every community. In order to make sure they’re still standing when this is all over, we need to support them. If you still aren’t comfortable sitting down at a restaurant, order some takeout! Many places are even able to offer wine, beer and cocktails to go. We’ve definitely been enjoying takeout a lot more frequently this past year in an effort to support as many local places as we can. And with takeout, you still get the break from cooking!

Where do you stand? Have you dined out yet? Have you enjoyed takeout from any of your favorite places recently?

Rebecca McKinney

I was born a foodie. My dad is a chef, baker, and restaurant owner and my mom might as well be because she owns whatever kitchen she walks into. I grew up working in my family’s restaurant and bakery in Pawling, New York – McKinney and Doyle. I started behind the bakery counter at 12 years old after begging my parents to let me start working. At 16 I worked as a hostess. By 18 I was serving tables and training behind the bar where I then worked every other weekend throughout my college career. Even now, when I am visiting my family in New York, I help out where I’m needed. To make a long story short, the food and restaurant industry has been my life for as long as I can remember.

I wanted to create this blog for a few reasons. First and foremost, to share tips, tricks, and knowledge about the food and beverage industry in general but also to help people see a different side of the restaurant world. Every restaurant has a totally unique culture and world within it. I want to help open people’s eyes to more than how fast the service is or how easy or hard it is to secure a reservation.

So, thanks for stopping by! I welcome your ideas, input, and feedback and hope you enjoy!

Eat well & travel often,

Becky McKinney
