Holiday Shopping at Good Tidings

I love when my dad writes for the blog. He has such a lovely writing style and I always feel like I can hear him speaking as I read his stories. Enjoy this post by Good TidingsShannon McKinney and gave a wonderful week!

There was a time when holiday shopping was not a dreaded chore, but more a chance to really tell someone how you feel with a gift that would bring joy into their lives. Remember that?

Picture a chilly December evening, maybe a few snow flakes falling through the air, and walking into a shop filled with treasures, twinkling lights, music, and a staff of caring people that really care about helping you find a unique gift for someone special in your life.

An old black and white movie starring Jimmy Stewart or Natalie Wood you might say? No. I’m talking about Good Tidings, our old fashioned gift shop/boutique located right next to McKinney and Doyle.

Now no one will argue about the convenience of sitting at your computer in your pajamas, pushing a button and having an Amazon box arrive at you door in a few days. You will, of course, still have to wrap it and then dispose of the 10 pounds of packing material it came in, but lets get back to good Tidings.

For YEARS, Sherrie Dorchik has traveled around the country to search out unique, well made treasures that just aren’t available at any mall or chain store. Sherrie and her staff know each and every item and what makes them so special.

Boutique style clothing, toys, home goods and entertaining needs are carefully organized throughout the shop and every single item can be gift wrapped free of charge. Want it shipped? Of course. No problem.

Any way you look at it, Christmas shopping can seem like a runaway train at times, so why not make it the train that brings you into the beautiful little village of Pawling and to the front door of Good Tidings. You may not see Jimmy Stewart or Natalie Wood, but you’ll be able to imagine them shopping right next to you.

Rebecca McKinney

I was born a foodie. My dad is a chef, baker, and restaurant owner and my mom might as well be because she owns whatever kitchen she walks into. I grew up working in my family’s restaurant and bakery in Pawling, New York – McKinney and Doyle. I started behind the bakery counter at 12 years old after begging my parents to let me start working. At 16 I worked as a hostess. By 18 I was serving tables and training behind the bar where I then worked every other weekend throughout my college career. Even now, when I am visiting my family in New York, I help out where I’m needed. To make a long story short, the food and restaurant industry has been my life for as long as I can remember.

I wanted to create this blog for a few reasons. First and foremost, to share tips, tricks, and knowledge about the food and beverage industry in general but also to help people see a different side of the restaurant world. Every restaurant has a totally unique culture and world within it. I want to help open people’s eyes to more than how fast the service is or how easy or hard it is to secure a reservation.

So, thanks for stopping by! I welcome your ideas, input, and feedback and hope you enjoy!

Eat well & travel often,

Becky McKinney
