Happy New Year!

Not to engage in small talk … but pretty crazy weather we’ve been having, huh? Some odd spring like days sandwiched between frigid temps and even snow. Speaking of snow … don’t forget – The Fine Foods Cafe & Corner Bakery does NOT close for Snow, so when you land a snow day, come and join us in one of our cozy booths to watch the snow fall on the beautiful village of Pawling through our huge storefront windows! Grab a coffee and danish in the earlier hours, keep the dining room buzzing during Lunch service or come enjoy a cocktail (if you are walking of course) during dinner hours. We’ve got your snow day covered.

Now, let’s talk lunch! By popular demand (seriously, we get this request on a daily basis), our Lunch menu is officially soaking up some of the classic M&D Sunday Brunch favorites  – including our Smokehouse Omelet, Judge Malone’s Corned Beef Hash, and my personal favorite … Strawberry Cream Cheese Pancakes. More of a lunch lover? Don’t fret. All of our big hitters are still on the menu as well, which means that if you come to visit us during Lunch Hours (Wed-Sat 11:30-2) you’ll be able to enjoy some brunch classics as well as our Cranberry Turkey Sandwich, The Short Rib Grilled Cheese, Flat Iron Bao Buns, Fish & Chips and many more.
For those of you who love to ski or participate in other winter sporting activities – January is full of excitement. But for the rest of us, we feel like once the holidays settle, there is this sense of….what now?
We wanted to kick it up and give our customers and our team some things to be excited about. So …

We are officially launching our first set of events since…well…you know.

In talking it over with the team, we decided on two different themes, both of which challenge us, create a great platform for education, and (perhaps most importantly) bring warm cozy vibes. The themes are:
“Celebrating the Chinese New Year” – Sunday, January 22nd, 5pm
Specific dishes are enjoyed during the Chinese New Year for their symbolic meaning. The symbolism of these traditional dishes are based on their pronunciation and appearance so we thought it would be an amazing way to learn more about how this all goes down.

“A Winter Stroll through the Vineyards of Burgundy” – Sunday, February 12th, 5pm
Showcasing how two grapes can take on a variance of profiles through terroir and tradition – and how damn well they pair with warm, cozy winter dishes.

Menus will be launched via social media & on our website at the end of this week & reservations will be available via Resy or by calling the restaurant directly. See you there!

Rebecca McKinney

I was born a foodie. My dad is a chef, baker, and restaurant owner and my mom might as well be because she owns whatever kitchen she walks into. I grew up working in my family’s restaurant and bakery in Pawling, New York – McKinney and Doyle. I started behind the bakery counter at 12 years old after begging my parents to let me start working. At 16 I worked as a hostess. By 18 I was serving tables and training behind the bar where I then worked every other weekend throughout my college career. Even now, when I am visiting my family in New York, I help out where I’m needed. To make a long story short, the food and restaurant industry has been my life for as long as I can remember.

I wanted to create this blog for a few reasons. First and foremost, to share tips, tricks, and knowledge about the food and beverage industry in general but also to help people see a different side of the restaurant world. Every restaurant has a totally unique culture and world within it. I want to help open people’s eyes to more than how fast the service is or how easy or hard it is to secure a reservation.

So, thanks for stopping by! I welcome your ideas, input, and feedback and hope you enjoy!

Eat well & travel often,

Becky McKinney
