Football Snacks are the Real MVP

If you want to talk football, I am not your girl. But if you want to talk football season snacks, then you’ve hit the jackpot.

I am the self-proclaimed queen of snacking. As soon as Matt mentioned his excitement for the season to begin this past weekend, my brain jumped to all of the things I can make so that it’s enjoyable for me too. I could probably put together a decent sized book of all my favorite appetizers and snacks that are perfect for game day at home or a live tailgate, but today I figured I’d start out with a reminder of all the things you can get at M&D instead.

What’s better than game day snacks? Game day snacks you don’t have to make yourself!

Naturally, the first item that comes to mind when it comes to snack food from M&D is our guacamole. I know I’m biased but based on how many requests I get from you all for our specific recipe, I know I’m not alone here. Grab a pint. Or maybe two or three anytime you see it in the deli case because it flies off our refrigerator shelves and it will likely disappear quite quickly once you get it home too.

What is guac without chips? We make our own in house and they are the perfect compliment to our homemade guacamole and/or our homemade salsa; ALSO found in our deli case during this season.

You know what goes really well with chips, guacamole, and salsa? Chili. Either on the side or on top in nacho form, a quart of chili is just what the QB ordered.

If you’re like me, you need something on the healthier side to feel better about all the loaded chips. M&D’s house salad is often available fresh in the bakery deli case too and while it may not be your standard football snack … having it there will at least make you feel like you’re making a healthy choice. Plus, it’s delicious.

Okay, dessert. A get together without dessert is just a meeting. Grab some of your favorite cookies or a seasonal poundcake while you’re grabbing your game day snacks. My personal favorite is the banana chocolate chip pound cake with cream cheese filling. No for real, I asked my dad to make this in wedding cake form when I got married, that’s how much I love it. Any of the sour cream pound cakes are also great choices and if you want to get really fall-y, snag a pumpkin one when you see it. And of course, any pastry will make a sweet tooth smile.

What is your favorite item from the bakery case?

Rebecca McKinney

I was born a foodie. My dad is a chef, baker, and restaurant owner and my mom might as well be because she owns whatever kitchen she walks into. I grew up working in my family’s restaurant and bakery in Pawling, New York – McKinney and Doyle. I started behind the bakery counter at 12 years old after begging my parents to let me start working. At 16 I worked as a hostess. By 18 I was serving tables and training behind the bar where I then worked every other weekend throughout my college career. Even now, when I am visiting my family in New York, I help out where I’m needed. To make a long story short, the food and restaurant industry has been my life for as long as I can remember.

I wanted to create this blog for a few reasons. First and foremost, to share tips, tricks, and knowledge about the food and beverage industry in general but also to help people see a different side of the restaurant world. Every restaurant has a totally unique culture and world within it. I want to help open people’s eyes to more than how fast the service is or how easy or hard it is to secure a reservation.

So, thanks for stopping by! I welcome your ideas, input, and feedback and hope you enjoy!

Eat well & travel often,

Becky McKinney
