Grill Your Way Through the Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July!  What better day to grill than today?! I am spending the day out and about with friends and Grilllots of food but figured I’d share some of my favorite, non-obvious grill treats with you. I’ve even got a cocktail that meets the grilled criteria!

Grilled tomato bruschetta: Half and char cherry tomatoes on the grill before mixing them with fresh garlic, red wine vinegar, red pepper flakes, and fresh basil. Then, scoop spoonfuls of the mixture onto grilled slices of rustic country bread. So. Good.

Grilled filet mignon with grilled sweet potatoes and asparagus. Not exactly creative but who would complain? Let some butter melt over the steak as it cooks for an extra decadent bite.

This dessert might be my favorite; Grilled S’mores: Assemble your S’more the way you would had you just roasted the marshmallow, wrap in foil and heat on the grill. You can thank me later.

You still with me? This one might sound crazy but I SWEAR, it works;  Grilled Lemonade: Slice lemons in half and dipped them in sugar before grilling for just over five minutes. As they cool, heat sugar, honey, rosemary into a syrup. Squeeze the grilled lemons into a pitcher, add the infused syrup and water, and then, for an adults only kick, pour in just a touch of Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey. Garnish glasses with a lemon slice and a sprig of rosemary and enjoy.

I know it’s late notice but tell me … will you try any of these at your BBQ today?

Rebecca McKinney

I was born a foodie. My dad is a chef, baker, and restaurant owner and my mom might as well be because she owns whatever kitchen she walks into. I grew up working in my family’s restaurant and bakery in Pawling, New York – McKinney and Doyle. I started behind the bakery counter at 12 years old after begging my parents to let me start working. At 16 I worked as a hostess. By 18 I was serving tables and training behind the bar where I then worked every other weekend throughout my college career. Even now, when I am visiting my family in New York, I help out where I’m needed. To make a long story short, the food and restaurant industry has been my life for as long as I can remember.

I wanted to create this blog for a few reasons. First and foremost, to share tips, tricks, and knowledge about the food and beverage industry in general but also to help people see a different side of the restaurant world. Every restaurant has a totally unique culture and world within it. I want to help open people’s eyes to more than how fast the service is or how easy or hard it is to secure a reservation.

So, thanks for stopping by! I welcome your ideas, input, and feedback and hope you enjoy!

Eat well & travel often,

Becky McKinney
